Casio’s first Android Wear smartwatch is as rugged as they come – a far cry from the firm’s rather more brittle, spongy-keyed calculator watches of the Eighties. Designed for people who love the great, weather-beaten outdoors, it has been tested to military standard specifications (MIL-STD-810G if you must ask) and it also comes with apps specifically designed for
trekking, cycling and fishing. More able to survive the fiercest of conditions than most of us, it’s water-resistant to 50 metres and, while it has a cool yet power-zapping 1.32-inch touch-screen colour display, it’s also built to last. Change it to monochrome mode and it will stay powered for as long as a month. We reckon that will buy you enough time to navigate out of any situation.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge came with an innovative way of displaying notifications - illuminating the bevelled edge along the side of the screen. Now even if you don’t have an S6 Edge, you can still get a taster of this Edge display using the Edge Color Notifications app.
The drawback is that no device other than the S6 Edge has that bevelled edge, so the app compensates by illuminating the edges of your screen with animations instead. You can also assign specific colours to your important contacts, so you can see who’s calling at a glance. You can even tell the app to reserve animations for the contacts you’ve assigned a colour to, so if you see an Edge-style notification, you’ll know someone important is calling!

STEPS TO STYLE...

1. Enable settings

Download the Edge Color Notifications app from the Play store and launch the app. To set up Edge Color Notifications, open the side menu and select Home. Enable both the People Edge and Phonecall notification options. Open the side menu and select Phone Call Settings.

2. Customise Your Columns

You can customise the Edge effects for when you receive a phone call. This includes changing the width of the animated columns (so the effect is more noticeable or subtle) and changing the column’s default colour. You can also choose from a list of animations.

3. Left, Right Or Both

One of the most important changes you can make is choosing which side of the screen your animations will appear: left, right or both. If you select the Full Border animation, your columns appear around every side of the screen, regardless of what you select here.

4. Assign specific colours

By default, Edge Color Notifications will apply the same colour to every single person in your contact lists, but you’ll usually get more value out of the app by assigning specific colours to people. To do this, open the side menu and select Contacts Colors.

5. Choose a new colour

You’ll see a list of all your contacts, with the same default colour next to each contact. To assign someone their own colour, tap the block of colour that appears next to their name and choose a new colour from the pop-up that appears. Tap OK to save your changes.

6. Be Selective

Once you’ve finished assigning colours, you can restrict Edge Colour so that it only displays the Edge animations for contacts that you’ve assigned a specific colour to. If this is the case, return to Phone Call Settings and select Only show contacts with specific color set.

Wearables have added another dimension to this issue as an iPhone user may want an Android smartwatch, but then they would not be able to use it with their phone. However, iPhone users can now use some basic functions on their Android Wear device thanks to two new apps. This tutorial will require you to use both an Android and Apple handset in the setup, but after that your smartwatch should be able to sync up with either of your phones. This tutorial will show you how to use both the BLE Utility app and the ‘Aerlink: Wear Connect for iOS’ app in order to turn your Android-only smartwatch into a device that can work with both Android and Apple handsets, giving you many more interesting options for your smartwatch.

1. Download relevant apps.

Download ‘Aerlink: Wear Connect for iOS’ onto your Android phone. It will appear as ‘Aerlink’ on your handset and smartwatch. Download BLE Utility on an iPhone.

2. Locate the Aerlink app

You should already have the Android Wear
app downloaded and your watch synced with your Android phone. Next, tap on the watch’s homescreen where you will see the Aerlink app.

3. Activate iOS Service

Click the app. On the next screen, you will
see a toggle for iOS Service. The slider will be grey; tap it to turn it blue. Your phone will now be able to see and pair with Apple handsets via Bluetooth.

4. Open BLE Utility

BLE Utility fi nds devices that use Bluetooth
Low Energy. Without this, the iPhone still couldn’t locate the watch. Once the app has loaded, tap on Peripheral. This is where the watch will appear.

5. Search for iPhone

Once you had moved the slider, the watch should have told you it had disconnected –this is part of the plan. Tap the magnifying glass icon and it will search for compatible devices to pair with.


6. Pair the phone

When the watch and the phone find each other, this box should appear. Look on the watch’s screen for the code then type in the vacant box. Pairing with an Android phone is a bit simpler.

ZTE may enter into smart watch segment by 2014.

ZTE plannig to release the new smartwatch by early next year 2014 according to the Financial Times megazine.The executive vice-president of ZTE told tthat it has planning to release the new smartwatch and currently its on R&D division and it will be comes with wearable segment gadget.The new ZTE wearable will be launched first quarter of the next year.
