Rumor has it that Facebook was working on their messenger last couple of weeks or months rather And now I think the rumor is becoming an original based on the fact that if you go to Facebook help center you'll surely find a piece of how to use the Messenger. And now there's a leak to this Download and apparently it was said by Facebook team that its a Trial but now they have officially Launched it, if you do some Google search you'll sure find many article about this messenger. And from what I heard its for Windows 7 OS but I still believe it will work for Vista users Coz many features in Windows 7 apparently can go smooth with Vista. Still don't know if the Mac version will be out soon.

Here's a screen shot from a reliable source

If you need more screen shots goto "Zdnet.com"

And here's the Download link for the setup:

The message below was ripped from Zdnet.com which was said to be a post from Facebook.
"Messenger for Windows is a new, trial application that lets you use Facebook
without being on www.facebook.com. While you surf the web or use other
applications on your computer, you can:
Chat and message with your friends on Facebook
See the latest updates from your friends in ticker
Get quick notifications about what’s going on
We’re testing out a first version of the app with a small group of people. During this
trial period, we plan on rolling out changes to the app and expect outages and
periods of instability as we make improvements. Note: Messenger for Windows will

Upcoming BlackBerry Smartphones and OS Q1 in 2012

Just some few research I was doing I found this rumor, surrounding the internet about BlackBerry releasing some set of smartphones that Could shake the Mobile market share in favour of RIM ™ . Sound interesting yea but I found it not quite appealing because when there's a rumor like this its definitely going to be True or False by the way I also found the code names for this Devices funny and you will agree after I list 'em' for you, here are their names “London, Lisbon, Milan, Nevada, BlackForest ” . Don't be surprise Google's Android ™ OS code names where also named after Dessert and Intel ™ named theirs after rivers, so if RIM ™ named theirs after cities in London(or United Kingdom) its not a bad idea, all we need is a solid Technology from this funny code names.

Released Date
According to the report the BlackBerry Milan(the one by your right above) is slated for March, and may be similar to the BlackBerry London( the one by your left above). Perhaps different versions for carriers. Other than the codename there isn't much yet out on the BlackBerry Lisbon. As for the BlackBerry Nevada it is said to be similar to the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and may be slated for late November. Last but not the least, is the BlackBerry Black Forest which may actually be a 10" PlayBook.Out of all of these the 10" PlayBook may be the most believable as RIM did tell us that they are working on 10" PlayBook back in Nov on their forum site.

BBX
These smartphones are coming with a preloaded New BlackBerry OS which was Named BBX but later changed to BlackBerry 10 because of copy write infringement from a company based in New Mexico “Basis International ” and they said it held a trademark on the "BBx" name and would go to court to protect its property.
Basis, founded in 1985, develops its own software language, databases and toolsets for
applications to run on Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems among others and the company feared they might loose customers to RIM ™

Change of name
BlackBerry10

Well that is a long story now, with the New OS code name “ BlackBerry 10 ” its said to have been Designed to look like a Playbook and also one of the New features is that this OS 10 “ BlackBerry 10 ” is most likely going to have Apps that runs on Android & iPhones to run on the New smartphones. As at the time of this post there are no image Leaks for “Nevada, Lisbon, and Black Forset(Playbook like) ” to display. Keep your fingers crossed for any update on this.

Sony ™ Entertainment is officially launching the New gaming Gadget that could win best Gaming console of the Century early 22 Feb 2012 precisely, and here's some Spec Sony ™ assured her prospective customers to expect from this Gaming gadget. They also assured its a PS3 gone mobile which means the Gaming graphics shouldn't be less than what we get from the PS3 and also its a Multi Touch screen with webcam features for Video chatting and calling(I guess). Read the Specs below.

Sony PS Vita | Spec
CPU. | ARM® Cortex™- A9 core (4 core)
GPU. | SGX543MP4+
External Dimensions. | Approx. 182.0 x 18.6 x 83.5mm

Colors. | 16 million colors, OLED
Rear Touch Pad. | Multi touch pad (capacitive type)
Camera. | Yes, Front camera, Rear camera
Built-in stereo speakers. | Yes
Built-in microphone. | Yes

Connectivity. | (3G) IEEE 802.11b/g/n (n = 1x1 (Wi-Fi)(Infrastructure mode/Ad-hoc mode)
Bluetooth®. | 2.1+EDR (A2DP/AVRCP/HSP)

But if there's something I can't seem to get here is “MicroSD or SDcard” where do they want us to install the Games? Perhaps it comes with an internal memory and as its a gaming console we should be expecting nothing less than 80GB from this device so the console can take a lot of Games to installed instead of buying those mini CD.

Sony ™ is the best in Game console making with their flexible key controls and easy access to a multiple world of games via internet gaming, am sure this won't be a flop.

Airtel Nigeria now offers BIS monthly for N1200 naira only.

Breaking News! Indeed Airtel Nigeria has officially announced this new BlackBerry subscription for Nigerians only.

Apparently this isn't the first of its kind in Nigeria, because Glo Nigeria officially announced their's less than two months and I think MTN NG also has this package but both networks charge N1500 monthly which means Airtel is waving off N300 to its customers isn't that Great discount from Airtel!
Here's a little text from Airtel

“Satisfy your exact need: chat away, browse the net non-stop, send and receive mails on your blackberry.com address for N1,200 monthly. Text bsm to 440! ”

But wait...

Am not a biased person but I like to say as it is and I find this difficult for some humans, I just want to let you all know that this package has TOS(Terms and Conditions) where by you're experiencing slow connectivity its not going to be the Network providers fault its going to be based on what type of subscription you're on because you definitely won't enjoy the same service with someone whose subscription is N3000. Talking from an experience with one of the above Networks offering N1500 a month the connection is nothing to write home about, pings takes hours to deliver and the worst is Google.com its slower than my grandmother reading KJV Bible to open the webpage and when you call their Customer Care they blame your area claiming because you're not in a 3G area, why do we need to be in an area where there's 3G what if we are not?

But ever since have been using Airtel on my BlackBerry it has never given me problem so Enjoy this New package from Airtel while it last before New subscribers kill the server.

Samsung's Retina resolution Tablet might drop Apple sales by Feb 2012

Samsung

This would be a remarkable coup, if it runs out to be true. A source within the industry indicates that Samsung may actually launch a Retina-resolution tablet in February of next year. This will be ahead of Apple's next iPad which was supposed to be the first tablet device with a Retina-display. The tablet that Samsung will supposedly introduce will have the following impressive specs:
  • Android 4.0/Ice Cream Sandwich
  • 11.6 Inch Display with a massive 2560 x 1600 resolution and 16:10 aspect ratio
  • A dual-core Exynos 5250 CPU clocked at 2GHz - Which will be very competitive and slightly similar to the A6 CPU coming in the next iPad
  • A special feature called "Android Beam" for easy syncing of media with a Galaxy Nexus
  • Also a special wireless docking mode for gaming on HDTVs to help Samsung compete with Apple TV, AirPlay and others
The above pic is likely just an artist's render at this point, but the tablet is likely to be announced during Mobile World Congress, in February of next year. We will keep a watch on this one for more info or pics.

Android and its Dessert OS updates.

Android

Like we all know the first generation of Androids OS codename was CupCake and the latest update is Jelly Bean. You might ask what are they thinking I mean Google and its developer bringing such names into Mobile Technology, well don't be surprise because before this fellows we have been hearing of Apple yea, and also a network Carrier Orange Mobile plus the reigning Pinging phone BlackBerry now somebody might wonder what's the meaning, well don't also forget Intel also named its CPUs after rivers so what's behind it iono lol(do some research).
Now let's take some observation about the alphabets used on this Android, below are the dessert OS update and their year of released.

Android OS v1.1 -Feb 2009 (no name for this version Coz its the first released)
CupCake v1.5 -May 2009 (this not the second release but this is where it all began)
Donut v1.6 -Sept 2009
Eclair v2.1 -Jan 2010
Froyo v2.2 -Feb 2010
GingerBread v2.3 -Dec 2010
HoneyComb v3.0/3.1/3.2 Feb/July/August 2011
IceCream Sandwich v4.0 Oct 2011
Jelly Bean*(Unavailable as at the time of this post)

Now take a look at their Alphabetical Order you should by now notice this "A for Android, B for ?( sorry B has been skipped for some reason known to Google) C for CupCake, D for Donut, E for Eclair, F for Froyo, G for GingerBread, H for HoneyComb, I for Ice Cream sandwich, and now the latest we have J for Jelly Bean.
Try and guess what might come next, did you mention K, nah remember B was skipped because it probably didn't sound nice if they had said B for Banana(could make some people think otherwise) so let's skip K and try L, yeah this might work (e.g Lime or Lemon?) maybe and maybe not let's keep our hands crossed and watch.

3 Smartphones that sent Nokia back to Finland

Late one night i was with my friends joking and doing all sorts then i found out 80% of them are using either iPhone with Blackberry or with an Android phone, then i sat down to ask where's Nokia ? and it echoed in my here "they've gone back to Finland" lol i went surprisingly some one brought a Nokia Lumia 800 i was astonish and i said this is a great leap for Nokia in collaboration with Microsoft its definitely going to change the way people use their smart-phones. Now despite the upgrade from Nokia lets look at the features in which this giants are using to grab the into buy their phones. If you're wondering what the New Nokia Lumia 800 is heres the picture of it below.

(1) Research In Motion also known for BlackBerry:This company change the way phones used to be, apparently no one i repeat no one ever thought of a simple yet easy Messenger ever, am talking about BlackBerry Messenger(BBM) yep remember back when we used to download Yahoo Messenger just to chat ior NIMBUZZ and EBUDDY yea those days are gone now(except for those still using those phones type of phones) and this app is one of the reason every body world wide wants to use BlackBerry and the other way people use in recognizing BBM is that simple four to seven letter word PING or PINGING and also the OS which is unique on its own, its current OS is OS 7 you wouldn't mind getting your hands on it. BlackBerry is widely used in the UK(i read 79% users) and they currently estimated a whooping 70million BlackBerry units world wide.

Next is Apple also known for iPhone: Steve Jobs is the brain behind this widely use touch screen phone, the man who started in a very tough point, read this article How It All Began With Steve Jobs you would understand where this Great man got his ideas from (RIP Steve Jobs) back to what i was writing before that emotionally mode came up iPhone is widely know for its wide Touch Screen with apps, games pictures and more you just cant comprehend. Apple did a great job one this mobile phone and its currently the first choice for Americans.Plus you can PING on it and the app used is called WhatsApp to download it goto iTUNES to download it and its FREE

Lastly Google also known for its Android OS: This is not a phone don't get me wrong its an Operating System short form of OS its a platform owned by Google and Google licensed it to any mobile manufacturer and just to name a few mobile manufacturers using this OS we have Samsung(the number user), Sony Ericson, LG, Motorola and lots more you can wiki it or Google to satisfy your self. This OS is also known for its stylish menus and for gamers this is definitely one of the best Platform you can play on and you won't regret second goes to iOS from Apple.

Thanks for Reading hope you enjoyed it this are just my concern am not biased though.

Download OS 7 ringtone for OS 5.

BlackBerry did a great job on the New OS 7 ringtones, I personally liked it so I did some research on how OS 5 users can benefit from this nice tones RIM composed. And now even OS 4.7 users can download it to their phone only if your player is capable of playing m4a formats/file.

Today am giving out the link to Download OS 7 ringtones to your BlackBerry plus how to make it appear in your sound profile.
Okay since you are ready scroll down this post and click the download link once downloaded successfully, you'll need an extractor Coz its in a ZIP file(don't be scared there's a free app you can download to unzip it). There are two simple ways you can use to unzip this stuffs for FREE

First step is for Mobile Users: Download FILESCOUT from AppWorld or click FILESCOUT once found download it after you've downloaded it, it'll ask you to restart your phone accept it. Once your phone is turned on there will be a short cut on your menu screen, open it you should see (SYSTEM , STORE and SDcard this is where you'll see all your files, locate where you stored the zip file ones found PRESS menu click unzip but remember when you want to unzip don't just unzip in where you found the ZIP file goto MemoryCard=BlackBerry=RINGTONES then Unzip there. Ones it has finish you can now goto Sounds=Edit Profile=Loud=Phone then choose any of the New Ringtones you have downloaded and enjoy! OS 7 ringtones on your OS 5 .

Second step is for Pc users: On PC its quite very easy but requires someone who knows how to connect and disconnect his/her BlackBerry and am not talking about DM(BlackBerry Desktop Manager). Now scroll down this post and download the ZIP file........Finished Downloading? Ok simply goto the Zip file you just downloaded( Trust me its Virus Free No Trick here) Unzip the file you just downloaded to a̶̲̥̅̊ folder, after Unzipping Open the folder CTRL + A to select all then press CTRL + C to copy haven't done that connect you BlackBerry to you PC using USB after that accept mass storage mode on your BlackBerry to be able to view your files from your SYSTEM. Ones successfully connected open your phone folder on your PC if you want to save it on your memory card Goto Computer=removable disk=BlackBerry=Ringtone=then paste what you copied from the Zip file into this folder then Disconnect you phone from the USB! Boom! You now have an OS 7 ringtone on you OS 5.

Note: This is for those who can't afford Phones with OS 7 built ;) and do not hesitate to report if the links is broken.

Apple's IPhone 4S could estimate 4 Million units This Weekend

Oct. 14 (Bloomberg) -- Apple Inc. is
poised to sell as many as 4 million units of
its new iPhone 4S this weekend as
customers around the world clamor for
one of the last products developed under
Steve Jobs.
The device, available today in the U.S.,
Australia, Canada, France, Germany,
Japan and U.K., is projected to
outperform last year's introduction of the
iPhone 4, which topped 1.7 million units
in its introductory weekend. For the
iPhone 4S, most estimates range from 2
million to 3 million, with Yankee Group
analyst Carl Howe predicting sales of as
much as 4 million.

The release represents the end of Apple's
era under Jobs, who died this month after
an eight-year battle with cancer. The
iPhone 4S has received mostly positive
reviews for its voice- recognition
software, speedier processor and
improved camera. The device also
provides Apple with fresh ammunition in
its fight against Google Inc.'s Android
software, which will appear on a host of
new smartphones in the year-end holiday
season.
“It's going to easily outpace any previous
launch,” said Charlie Wolf, an analyst at
Needham & Co. in New York. It helps
that the iPhone is available on the three
largest U.S. carriers for the first time,
which will bring in new buyers, he said.
Apple also has released an update to its
iOS mobile operating system, which
customers can download to their existing
devices. The software comes with 200
new features and a Web storage service
for synchronizing photos, documents,
music and other files across different
Apple gadgets.

Google Competition

While the iPhone is the best-selling single
smartphone, all of the devices running
Google's Android operating system
account for more of the industry's sales.
HTC Corp., Samsung Electronics Co.,
Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. and
other manufacturers have adopted the
software. Google offers Android for free
and then makes money on mobile
advertising and services. That revenue
now accounts for $2.5 billion a year, the
company said yesterday when it released
quarterly results.

Apple's shares have jumped more than
10 percent this week, boosted by
speculation that the iPhone 4S will be a
hit. The stock closed at $408.43 in U.S.
trading yesterday, making Apple the
world's most valuable business. Its
market capitalization now stands at
$378.7 billion, compared with $371.3
billion for the second-ranking company,
Exxon Mobil Corp.
In German trading, the stock today rose
1.4 percent to the equivalent of $412.42
as of 10:01 a.m. in Frankfurt.

Memory' of Steve

About 25 customers were lined up
outside Apple's Midtown Manhattan
store at lunch yesterday. In Australia, the
first country where the product went on
sale, Jackie Guo, 25, and his girlfriend,
both students at Macquarie University,
said they lined up as a tribute to Jobs.

“It's the iPhone for Steve, it's for the
memory of Steve,” Guo said. “It was the
last product he worked on. He pushed
this company to become a viable
company. His ideas are better than
others. They make the market more
hungry for the product.”

In Frankfurt, Grigory Stolyarov, a 27-
year-old employee of Dekabank Deutsche
Girozentrale, spent the night in front of
the store in the city's main shopping
street. He had put on two pairs of socks,
sweaters and jackets to weather the first
near- freezing night of the fall season and
be among the first 20 people in the line of
more than 1,000.
‘It's a prestige thing,” said Stolyarov,
who picked up three iPhones and already
owns an Apple iPad 2 tablet computer. “I
feel like an onion and I definitely need
some sleep,” he said.

Makeshift Memorials

In Tokyo, about 80 people were lined up a
day before the debut and there were
more than 800 people by 8 a.m. at the
Ginza district store.
Jobs's admirers have turned storefronts
into makeshift memorials, adding a
solemn tone to the frenzy that
accompanies the company's product
releases. Jobs co-founded Apple and
returned to the company after a 12-year
absence, rescuing it from near-
bankruptcy.
“They are going to sell out,” said Yankee
Group's Howe, who is based in Boston.
High demand for the new iOS 5 software
contributed to glitches at Apple even
before the iPhone 4S went on sale.
Customers downloading it to their older
phones overwhelmed the company's
servers, making it harder to upgrade.
Sell Out

Apple hasn't said how many people were
affected. The wait time to get a call back
from an Apple support representative via
the company's Express Lane service is
much longer than usual. Typically, an
Apple rep will call back within a few
hours. Now, the earliest appointments
aren't for days.
Trudy Muller, a spokeswoman for
Cupertino, California-based Apple,
declined to comment.
The iPhone 4S will go on sale later this
month in 22 additional countries,
including Ireland, Italy, Mexico and
Spain. Apple didn't say when it will be
available in China, a country Chief
Executive Officer Tim Cook has said will
be critical for the company's future
growth.

Apple said earlier this week that it had
received more than 1 million preorders
for the iPhone 4S. The three U.S. carriers
selling the device -- AT&T Inc., Verizon
Wireless and Sprint Nextel Corp. -- sold
out as well. The demand puts Apple on
pace to sell a record number of iPhones
in the quarter ending in December,
according to the analysts' reports. Gene
Munster, of Piper Jaffray Cos., estimates
that Apple could sell more than 25 million
iPhones this quarter.
Top Moneymaker
The iPhone, first introduced in 2007, has
become Apple's top moneymaker,
accounting for almost half its total
revenue. Sales from the new model won't
be part of the fourth-quarter financial
results Apple is due to release on Oct. 18.

Even so, profit rose about 60 percent in
the period to $6.9 billion on sales of $29.5
billion, according to the average of
analysts' estimates compiled by
Bloomberg.
The release of the iPhone 4S, along with
new Android models, should mean that
smartphone users account for the
majority of U.S. mobile-phone customers
for the first time, said Roger Entner, an
analyst at Recon Analytics LLC in
Dedham, Massachusetts.

Apple controlled 19.1 percent of the
smartphone market in the second
quarter, according to research firm IDC,
ahead of Samsung, Nokia Oyj and
Research In Motion Ltd.
Few companies can build excitement
around a new product the way Apple can,
Yankee Group's Howe said.
“This is what they are good at,” he said.
“They know how to make a big launch
weekend.”

Bells Labs Programmer Dennis Ritchie a computer scientist passed out @70

Dennis Ritchie dies at 70; computer
scientist helped develop Unix

Dennis Ritchie, a computer scientist who wrote the
popular C programming language and helped
develop the Unix operating system, has died. He was
70.

Ritchie died a month after his birthday, according to
his biography on a Web page of Alcatel-Lucent's Bell
Labs. Ritchie joined Bell Labs in the late 1960s.
The company announced his death Thursday but did
not give the cause or say when Ritchie died.
Ritchie is best known for his contributions to
computer programming and software. The C
programming language, which he developed in the
early 1970s, is still popular. It has gone through a
number of upgrades, and it is commonly used for
website development and other computer tasks.

The Unix operating software also surged in popularity. It
and its offshoots, including the open-source Linux,
are widely used today, in corporate servers and even
cellphones.
Ritchie was born Sept. 9, 1941, in Bronxville, N.Y.
His father, Alistair, was a systems engineer at Bell
Labs and his mother, Jean, was a homemaker. After
studying physics and math at Harvard University,
Ritchie joined Bell Labs.

"My undergraduate experience convinced me that I
was not smart enough to be a physicist, and that
computers were quite neat," Ritchie wrote. "My
graduate school experience convinced me that I was
not smart enough to be an expert in the theory of
algorithms and also that I liked procedural
languages better than functional ones."
At Bell, Ritchie and colleague Kenneth Thompson
worked closely to create Unix. In writing the C
language, Ritchie built on Thompson's earlier B
language. Their collaborations were intended to
simplify operating systems and make the software
portable and easy to move from existing hardware to
new computers, resulting in the open-source
movement of sharing ideas.
"I wanted to find out what things a program or
operating system could make possible that you
couldn't do before," Ritchie told Investors Business
Daily in 2003.

Bell Labs' emphasis on research provided
opportunities for Ritchie and Thompson to develop
pioneering innovations.

"There are features in C that everyone takes for
granted now," Doug McIlroy, a Bell colleague, told
Investors Business Daily. "But when Dennis created
them, they were new to the world."
Information on survivors was not available.

9 Possible Ways Apple Could Persuade You to Buy Their TV (& Change TV as We Know It)

Talk of an Apple TV has stirred again lately with financial analyst Gene Munster predicting Apple will release in the 2012-2013 timeframe. Many arguing against an Apple TV point to the significant margins they have commanded in the industries they traditionally operate, and that these margins would not be attainable without Apple charging a significant premium over cheaper sets. The TV industry has been in a race to the bottom on price, or so the argument goes.

I agree.
Specifically, I agree that Apple will be challenged to persuade consumers to pay a premium for an Apple TV. Apple knows that and knows it's no simple task. That's why if they do come out with a TV they'll look to persuade consumers across multiple fronts.

Aesthetics

The new Apple TV will be a gorgeous piece of hardware with the classic brushed aluminum, thin profile and edge to edge screen. Could you imagine a white, pulsing Apple logo at the bottom of the TV - the kind of drool factor that would generate to be the centerpiece of every red-blooded male's living room?

Content

Apple will rewrite the content game. I expect them to negotiate a subscription-based plan with content providers that will undercut whatever consumers are currently paying for subscription-based content. What this will do is make the purchase of the TV not just about the consumer paying a premium for a sweet new TV, which can be far harder to justify than say a $200 iPhone. It's that the consumer's content experience is going to change with it. This makes the purchase easier to justify in the mind of the consumer.

Sexy Integration with iOS Devices

Apple will rewrite the content game. What this will do is make the purchase of the TV not just about the consumer paying a premium for a sweet new TV, which can be far harder to justify than say a $200 iPhone. It's that the consumer's content experience is going to change with it. This makes the purchase easier to justify in the mind of the consumer.
Consumer electronics remote controls leave a great deal to be desired. They are clunky, generally not enjoyable to use and have line of sight limitations. Apple will change all that and make the TV remote an enjoyable experience by turning every iOs device into a remote. The devices and television will talk via wifi eliminating line of sight limitations. You'll be able to flick content from one screen to another as you move from room to room.

Video Conferencing

With the launch of a new TV, Apple will finally make the long promised video conferencing in the living room a reality. And, they'll do it right. Video conference to/from any Apple device (iPhone, iPod, iPad, Mac notebook, desktop...), the ability to leave messages, and high definition video (imagine how demoing that will play at the launch event)

Extend the iOS/Mac Screen

The TV will become an extension of every iOS/Mac computing device screen; every device with a screen will be able to project its content onto the TV screen.

New Gaming Experiences

Apple will push further into Nintendo and Sony's turf with new gaming experiences that leverage the iOs ecosystem. Imaging playing head to head against your buddy on a driving game on the big screen while you steer using your iphone as the steering wheel and he does the same on his iPod Touch. Or playing a family round of Scrabble on the big screen from your iOs device. Apple will release developer tools that enable vendors to develop for the new Apple TV-iOs interaction ecosystem.

A (Free) DVR to End All DVRs

I expect a DVR built into the new Apple TV that is a pleasure to use. And, Apple will undercut the MSO's and make it free (no monthly fee). They wikll build in new ways to discover content (social, recommendation engine...) the ability to easily program the DVR from any web enabled, or iOS device. And, as an added bonus 'sling' like functionality to send your content to any web enabled or iOs device.

Social Integration

I wouldn't be surprised to see Apple turn television watching completely on its head by building social into TV watching in an elegant and usable way. Things like seeing what your friends are watching, true integration with social networks, comment and discussion while watching programming (and no, it hasn't been done before--slapping a twitter app into an internet connected TV doesn't count as social enabled TV.)
It is true of the development process for all Apple products, but it is particularly true of the Apple TV: the features and functionality that will go into any Apple TV will be guided by "how will this feature contribute to the persuasive argument to consumers to pay a premium over cheaper options?"

App Ecosystem

We've mentioned gaming and social but Apple will also likely enable an app ecosystem for its new TV. I think the way to think about this is not that Apple will enable consumers to slap a bunch of apps designed for a phone or IPad up on their big screen, but that they will create an environment for developers to create experiences and applications designed for a TV experience--one that leverages the big screen and leverages the tie in to other iOs devices we mentioned earlier.

Building the Apple TV with an Eye Towards Persuasion

It is true of the development process for all Apple products, but it is particularly true of the Apple TV: the features and functionality that will go into any Apple TV will be guided by "how will this feature contribute to the persuasive argument to consumers to pay a premium over cheaper options?" And, knowing Apple, much of the thought process that will go into the design and development of the features will require that they demo well in a launch event and post launch advertising. Hopefully this exercise has shown that despite what some assert, there is plenty of room for innovation in the living room. If Apple ever decides to treat it as more than a hobby they will rewrite the experience for consumers in much the same way they did for mobile.

5 things you must know about Bold 5 9900/9930

BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones
The BlackBerry® Bold™ 9900 and BlackBerry® Bold™ 9930 smartphones have gotten great buzz since we first announced the two BlackBerry® 7 smartphones with a BlackBerry Bold touch at the BlackBerry World™ conference in May. Members of the media and #TeamBlackBerry certainly enjoyed test-driving them at our #BB7FanNight event in Toronto. (FYI: We’ve gathered many BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 reviews from across the web for your quick reference.) Now that the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones are making their way to your local carriers and retail locations, we thought it would be a good time for the BlackBerry Bold Product Managers Michael and Jason to share five things you need to know about the new BlackBerry Bold touch smartphones.
1. The new touch BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones combine design style with substance
Our design goal for the new BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones was to deliver a stunning design that integrates the BlackBerry Bold family’s iconic QWERTY keypad with a brilliant, high resolution capacitive touch screen. Great care, time and precision went into designing and creating the keypad on the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones; it was meticulously refined, sculpted and positioned to deliver the utmost in precision functionality to make typing accurate, simple and fast. In fact, even though the keypad on these two smartphones may look similar to that of the BlackBerry® Bold™ 9000 smartphone, it actually has 5% more surface area. Achieving such an improved typing experience – on the thinnest BlackBerry smartphones yet – is something we know BlackBerry customers will appreciate (and is a testament to our design team’s commitment to delivering continuous improvements to what matters most to our customers).

In terms of the overall design, the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones were built in the tradition of the BlackBerry Bold line of smartphones, with purposeful detailing plus premium materials and finish. When you first hold the device in your hand, we think you will quickly realize how great it feels. We’ve highlighted some of our favorite design elements below:
  • Brushed stainless steel frame: the elegantly brushed stainless steel frame extending around the exterior adds to the visual appeal of both Blackberry Bold smartphones, giving them what we feel is a timeless and classic look. Beyond aesthetics, the stainless steel frame adds reliable durability while seamlessly integrating important functions like the convenience and volume keys.
  • “Aerospace composite” battery door: distinct to the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones, the “aerospace composite” battery door is incredibly lightweight and durable. It’s made of the same composite material that’s used to construct next-generation airplanes, racecars, and high-tech sports equipment. The cool factor is high to be sure, but more importantly, this composite construction actually helps optimize antennas, radios, and other device technology for highly reliable connectivity.
  • Ultra-thin design: When we looked at the amount of time people have a device in hand, it became a priority for us to make the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones the thinnest BlackBerry smartphones ever at 10.5mm. For BlackBerry smartphone users, this means a lightweight, sleek & slim device that fits comfortably in the palm of their hand, while maintaining uncompromised performance.
2. The BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930: The most powerful guts ever in a BlackBerry smartphone
We wanted to match the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones’ distinctive design with powerful hardware to deliver a best-in-class BlackBerry Bold smartphone experience. With a 1.2 GHz processor, 8GB of onboard memory with the option to expand (using up to a 32GB media card), and high-speed CDMA or HSPA+ world phone connectivity, these models have the most powerful ‘guts’ ever in a BlackBerry smartphone, helping you get more things done even faster. Here are a few features we’d like to speak to in more detail.
The BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones are the first BlackBerry smartphones to feature brilliant 2.8” 640×480 high-resolution touch screens, which deliver crisp, clear images and text at 287 pixels per inch, in full 24-bit color. Powered by the BlackBerry 7 OS and Liquid Graphics™ technology, these screens provide a truly responsive and versatile touch experience, so you can browse the web, interact on social sites, read and respond to emails, and view high resolution videos and photos. If you’d like to learn more about the evolution of the touch experience in BlackBerry 7, check out Sangita and Troy’s post, which tackles the subject in more detail.
In addition to hi-speed CDMA or HSPA+ cellular connectivity, the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones also feature dual-band Wi-Fi® connectivity (2.4GHz and 5GHz). Reliable Wi-Fi connectivity is important for pulling down large amounts of data quickly without a hit to your data plan, and Dual band Wi-Fi connectivity means better connectivity and faster performance at the office, coffee shop, airport, or at home.
The BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones are the first BlackBerry smartphones to feature Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. NFC is a technology that allows BlackBerry smartphone users to just tap to connect, get information, and link up with other supported NFC devices or authentic BlackBerry accessories. For more information about what NFC means for BlackBerry smartphone users, please watch this interview with Andrew Bocking, VP of Handheld Software Product Management.
3. The new BlackBerry 7 OS delivers better performance, usability and voice-activated Universal search
The powerful hardware in the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones have been paired with the new and powerful BlackBerry 7 OS, which offers a variety of performance and usability enhancements, such as Liquid Graphics and the next generation BlackBerry web browser. While BlackBerry 7 Product Manager Annu is planning on providing a detailed blog post on BlackBerry 7, we thought we’d share one of our favorite features: voice-activated Universal Search.
With voice-activated Universal Search, the powerful on-device search functionality that premiered in the BlackBerry 6® OS has gone hands free. Using advanced speech-to-text translation, you can now search for files, emails, contacts, music, and more—all without typing a thing. Voice-activated Universal Search also combs the web and BlackBerry applications for the information you need. For example, I often use Universal Search to find an address, which automatically brings up the BlackBerry® Maps location information. Very cool!
4. The new BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones improve social collaboration
As we said before, the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones’ full QWERTY keypad offer an efficient and speedy typing experience, but it’s not just for emails. The new BlackBerry Bold smartphones feature the latest versions of our social media applications, including Social Feeds, Twitter® for BlackBerry smartphones, Facebook® for BlackBerry smartphones, and the new BlackBerry® Messenger (BBM™) 6. This suite of apps makes it easy for BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphone owners to quickly connect with friends, family, and co-workers.
We’re most excited about the potential of BBM 6 for BlackBerry Bold smartphone users, because of “BBM-connected” apps. BBM 6 allows for 3rd-party applications to incorporate your favorite aspects of BBM into their apps, from status updates and sharing to BBM chats. The video below shows how popular social application Foursquare takes advantage of BBM 6, but that doesn’t mean that social on the new BlackBerry Bold smartphones is only about fun and games. Don’t believe me? Check out this post on how to use BlackBerry Messenger 6 for business.
5. The BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones “Balance” the needs of enterprise and end users

In addition a full QWERTY keypad, dual-band Wi-Fi and BBM 6, the new BlackBerry Bold smartphones offer a variety of features that reinforce the BlackBerry Bold family’s heritage as the ultimate enterprise device for business people on the go. Two of our favorites are BlackBerry® Balance™ technology and the Documents To Go® Premium app.
BlackBerry Balance is a new technology in BlackBerry 7 that ensures your work life and private life never mix—so you can enjoy the fullest mobile experience on just one device. When you’re at work, BlackBerry Balance technology allows you to focus on getting tasks done while securely accessing business information, but it also makes it possible to stay connected via apps like Facebook, Twitter or personal email accounts. This is because BlackBerry Balance technology is designed to works behind the scenes to safeguard against accidentally compromising the security of company content while simultaneously protecting the privacy of your personal content. To learn more about this new technology, check out the BlackBerry Balance product page.
The BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones also come with the full premium version of the Documents To Go app, which is a vital tool for mobile productivity. Documents To Go is a mobile document suite that is designed to allow you to create and edit Microsoft® Word®, Microsoft® Excel®, and Microsoft® PowerPoint® docs, and view PDF docs anywhere, anytime. As someone that travels regularly for work, I can attest that the ability to easily review or edit important work documents has been a lifesaver many times over.
We’re incredibly excited that the next generation of BlackBerry Bold smartphones is now available for BlackBerry smartphone users. For more information on pricing and availability, please contact your local carrier or visit our BlackBerry Bold where to buy page. Make sure to post a comment below and let us know what you think!

HTC unveils two Facebook phones

HTC has announced two unofficial Facebook phones: the HTC Salsa and the HTC ChaCha. Both have a dedicated Facebook button that gives the user one-touch access to key functions of the service.

At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, HTC announced multiple smartphones and tablets. Two of these have a dedicated Facebook button: the HTC Salsa and the HTC ChaCha. Both will be available in Europe and Asia during Q2 2011, while AT&T will get them exclusively in the United States later this year, at undisclosed price points.
The two new phones are built entirely around Facebook: the dedicated button gives the user one-touch access to key functions of the service that are integrated throughout the company’s custom HTC Sense user interface, which is built on top of Android 2.3 (codenamed Gingerbread). The button is context-aware, meaning it lights up whenever there is an opportunity to update your status, upload a photo, share a website, post what song you are listening to, check in to a location, upload a photo you just took, and other Facebook activities. When you make or take a phone call, the dialer screen displays your friend’s latest status and photos, and even tells you if their birthday is approaching. Facebook Chat and Messages are also directly integrated within your phone and appear alongside your text and e-mail inboxes.

As you can see above, HTC is offering touchscreen and keypad versions of its Facebook phones. The one on the left is the HTC Salsa while the one on the right is the HTC ChaCha.
The HTC Salsa has a 3.4-inch (480 x 320 resolution) touchscreen while the HTC ChaCha has a 2.6-inch touchscreen (480 x 320 resolution) and a physical QWERTY keyboard. Both have a 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 CPU, 512MB of both RAM and ROM, a 5MP camera with auto focus and LED flash on the back, a VGA front-facing camera, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11n connectivity, a 3.5mm audio jack, and microUSB port. The HTC Salsa lacks GPS support, while the ChaCha, surprisingly, comes with it.
Facebook previously confirmed the existence of the HTC phones, but brushed aside their importance. According to Palo Alto, the devices were merely a prime example of a manufacturer using the company’s public APIs to innovate in the mobile space. Now the social networking giant has slightly changed its stance, apparently backing their announcement. Still, the Taiwanese mobile manufacturer has not been allowed to market them as “Facebook phones.”
“We have worked closely with HTC for several years on bringing Facebook to their devices and HTC ChaCha and HTC Salsa are the next stage,” Henri Moissinac, Head of Mobile Business for Facebook, said in a statement. “HTC has brought Facebook to these two new devices in an innovative way enabling people to connect and share easily whenever they want, wherever they are.”
“HTC has always understood that different people want different things and the new HTC ChaCha and Salsa offer special new ways to experience Facebook on a mobile device,” Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation, said in a statement. “With more than 500 million active users worldwide, Facebook has become synonymous with the social web and we wanted to create the ultimate socially connected phones with mass market appeal.”

AT&T and HTC in collaboration with Facebook plans Facebook Phones

The HTC status, the first device with a dedicated Facebook share button, will be launching on AT&T this summer.
AT&T today announced the HTC Status, the first device with a dedicated Facebook button, will be launching on the network this summer. Where was the announcement made? On Facebook, of course. HTC launched a new Facebook Page just for the device: HTC Status.
The HTC Status is really the HTC Chacha, which was announced back in February 2011, rebranded for AT&T. The HTC Status lets you share music, photos, location, and status updates via the dedicated Facebook button:
  • Press the Facebook button from your home screen to instantly post on your wall.
  • Take a picture or shoot a video and share it instantly with a press of the Facebook button. You can even post pictures automatically as you’re taking them.
  • Hold the Facebook button to check in your location with Facebook Places.
  • See something cool on the web? Share your latest find with a quick press of the Facebook button.
  • The Facebook button glows when playing music; press it to share what you’re listening to.
The HTC Status also features a chat widget that allows you to see when your friends are online. You can start a live instant chat and juggle between as many private conversations as you want, all straight from the device. Furthermore, every time you get or make a call, you see your friend’s profile picture and latest status update right on the call screen (if it’s their birthday that week, you’ll see that too).
Last but certainly not least, here are the technical specifications of the device:

Pricing is still unknown, but given the above, it should be relatively cheap. I’d expect AT&T’s plans for the device to of course include enough data for extensive Facebook usage.
“HTC Status brings a Facebook experience to people who want to share their experiences with their friends faster and easier than ever before,” Jason Mackenzie, President of HTC Americas, said in a statement. “With a dedicated Facebook share button combined with the hallmark HTC Sense experience, HTC Status makes it easy for people to stay connected to the things that are important to them.”
Facebook’s stance on devices like this one is that they are a prime example of a manufacturer using the company’s public APIs to innovate in the mobile space. That being said, the Taiwanese mobile manufacturer (or any company for that matter) is not allowed to market any of its devices as a “Facebook phone.” On the other hand, Facebook hopes more such devices will follow.

Adobe Flash Media Server 4.5 for iPads iPhones & iTouch

iPad

Adobe has announced that Media publishers can now stream Flash-based video to iPhones and iPads. Adobe's Flash Media Server 4.5 will allow publishers to stream Flash-based video to iPads and iPhones.

On Thursday, Adobe released Flash Media Server 4.5, which introduces support for Apple's iOS mobile operating system. It does this by letting broadcasters stream Flash-based video content in an Apple-derived format, HTTP Live Streaming (HLS).
Apple's iPhone and other mobile devices are well known for not supporting Flash, so in April Adobe said it had come up with a workaround.
Flash Media Server usually packages video streams using MPEG4 fragments, in the F4F file format. However, the new version adds support for a different protocol, HLS, which Apple created for QuickTime and iOS.
Where the media server system detects a lack of Flash support on the client device, it delivers the content in an MPEG2 stream, using the HLS format. HTML 5-capable browsers also support HLS, so using it makes it easier for broadcasters to reach a wider audience.
The end result is that Flash-based video content can now be delivered to iOS devices by using Apple's technology, in a way that requires almost no extra effort on the part of the publisher. Microsoft has been doing the same thing to get Silverlight-based content onto Apple mobile devices since 2009.
However, the advent of Flash Media Server 4.5 only enables Flash video streaming to iPhones and iPads. Flash-based games, animations and advertisements will still not work on such devices
